What does it take to be an Estate Agent?

Have you ever wondered what it takes to be an estate agent? In this week’s blog we thought we’d share some tips on what it takes to work in the fast-paced industry that is estate agency.

Know your local area – It’s vastly important that you know the area you’re working in. Whether it’s an in-depth knowledge gathered from growing up in the area or you’ve done your own research, as long as you’ve got it in your head, that’s all that matters. from knowledge about the best schools to where’s best for a drink, you need to know your stuff! Whether it's just in Ruislip or you know the full Hillingdon area, your knowledge is key.

Have an interest in the industry – It’s fantastic if you have a genuine interest in the industry. Whether it’s houses, chasing sales or making a difference to someone’s lives, there are a variety of different ways to be interested in our industry.

Excellent customer service skills – You’ll be dealing with clients day in, day out. Moving home can be a stressful experience so you need to make sure you’re there to offer the help and support to buyers and sellers. Whether you’re dealing with a potential buyer curious about the market or handing over the keys after a deal has completed, you’ll always be dealing with people so make sure you’re able to handle this.

Be prepared to go the extra mile – Being able to go the extra mile for customers is something that can really set you apart from the rest and we proud to say we do this at Lawrence Rand. Office hours may end at 8pm but a very keen potential buyer may only be able to view the property at 8.15pm? Would you tell them this can’t happen or go the extra mile to secure the buy?

Communication is key – There is lots of information to be shared in this industry. You need to be confident in picking up the phone, sending e-mails and talking in person. If you’re able to communicate clearly and effectively then it helps to put you in a strong position as an agent.

These are just a few of the skills that you need to possess to be part of the Lawrence Rand team. We have a careers section on our website so keep your eyes peeled for all the latest opportunities: CLICK HERE
