Save Money On Your Heating Bill

In this week's blog, we've got some tips on how you can save some money on your heating bill whilst still feeling nice and toasty. We're into the new year but we still have a little bit to go until the nights get lighter and we no longer need that extra layer. The money saving tips below should help to lower your energy bills.

Insulation is important - Insulation isn't as expensive as you think. As will any sort of investment, there are expensive options such as double and triple glazing not to mention loft insulation but you can make a difference on a budget. Draft excluders can be a great solution to help keep the heat in, especially if you have a connecting garage. Draft excluders come in all colours and shapes so you will be able to find one to suit your home. You can also fill in cracks in the wall with insulating foam.

Strategic heating - During Winter you will find that there is high demand for the heating to be turned on in your home. There is nothing wrong with using your heating and that's what it's there for. What you can do is make sure that it isn't turned on all the time. With most modern heating systems, you can set them on a timer so that it's only on when you need it. This means that you can wake up feeling nice and toasty and enjoy the warmth on a evening.

Radiators need space - It's important that you don't block radiators with furniture. Radiators need space around them to allow heat to circualte around a room. Doing this will allow you to get the most out of your heating when it's turned on.

Doors are made to be closed - If you're occupying a room then make sure the door is closed. It might seem unsociable but heat will always travel to somewhere colder if it can and closing doors will help to prevent or at least limited the heat transfer.

Shop around - There has been a growing trend in recent years for shopping around for the best prices. You shouldn't just do this for your clothes, car insurance and technology! See if you can find lower rates elsewhere, it doesn't hurt to look and hopefully you will be able to save yourself some money.

Extra layers - It may sound simple but people can often forget about this simple method! Instead of blasting the heating up, why not put on an extra layer? Wearing a jumper in the house can give you that extra bit of warmth to help you to feel that extra bit toasty.
